Bible study lesson preparation for Sunday, January 16, 2011.

Theme: Choose Life

1) Deuteronomy 30:11-20

How did Moses describe the Law God had given them? What were the acceptable excuses for not obeying the Law? What did Moses mean when he said, “Choose life/” How does choosing live effect a person’s behavior and choices?

2) These passages focus on King Josiah’s family tree:

Grandpa – King Manasseh

2 Kings 21:1-6, 9, 16

What was Manasseh’s attitude toward life? How did Manasseh’s choices measure up to Moses’ command to choose life? (See Deuteronomy 30:19)

Father – King Amon

2 Kings 21:19-24

How was King Amon’s life described? What was his attitude toward life? Based on Josiah’s family tree, what would you predict to be his attitude toward life?

3) 2 Kings 22:1-8

How was Josiah’s life described? What were the events that led to discovery of the copy of the Law?

2 Kings 22:10-13

What was Josiah’s response to hearing the Book of the Law read aloud?

4) 2 Kings 23:1-3

What did Josiah do after hearing the Book of the Law? What were Josiah’s actions that displayed his choice for life?

Skim 2 Kings 23:4-15; 19-24

Verse 25 – How did Josiah stand apart as king? Does your life stand apart in these ways? What evidence in your life demonstrates your commitment to choose life?
