1) Mark 10:32-34
Where were they going? How were they feeling about it? Why is this detail important? What did Jesus say was going to happen?
Isaiah 50:6; 53:3,8-9
This is a prophecy about the Messiah that would have been well-known to the disciples. How does this prophecy connect to Jesus’ words in v. 34?

2) Mark 10:34-41
What was James and John’s request? Why did they ask at this time? What was Jesus’ response? What was the other disciples’ response?

What additional details in this passage provide more information about this event?

1) Mark 9:33-37
What were the disciples arguing about? What lesson was Jesus trying to teach them?

How did Jesus’ teaching in this passage contrast to worldly wisdom ? How did Jesus live out His servant attitude? How do you live out your servant attitude?

2) Mark 9:38-41
What was John’s concern?
Matthew 10:40-42
What did Jesus teach as the standard for inclusion in His kingdom?
Numbers 11:24-29
How does this Old Testament story compare to what the disciples were learning?

3) Mark 9:42-50
What did Jesus teach about the seriousness of sin? How is our attitude toward sin related to having healthy relationships? Focus on verse 49: Name some properties of salt. What is it useful for? What does it mean to be salted by fire?

4) 1 Corinthians 1:10-17
How does this situation in the church compare with Mark 9:33-41? According to these passages, what attitude should we have toward other Christians and churches?

What did Jesus’ actions show about His values? What did He value? What did His emotional reactions in this passage show about His values?

2) Mark 5:21-24, 35-43
What motivated Jarius to seek Jesus? What can we learn from Jarius’ example? In what area of your life is Jesus saying verse 36 to you?

3) Mark 5:24-34
Jesus could have responded to this woman’s need and use of His power differently. Can you think of some other ways? What did His choice demonstrate about His character and values? Why did He want her identified to Him?

4) Mark 10:13-16
What stands out to you in this passage? What does it mean to receive the kingdom of God like a child? What’s the difference between child-likeness and childishness in regard to participating in God’s kingdom? Will you take time to sit with Jesus and let Him bless you today?

What is the same in these two passages? What is different? Is there any area in your life where God shows His work, and then when you come to the same situation again, you respond the same as the first time?

What point was Jesus trying to make? Why were the disciples missing the lesson? What makes you miss lessons from God?

3) Mark 8:22-26
What steps did Jesus take to protect the Messianic secret in this passage? Why did it take 2 times of laying on of hands for the man to be healed?

4) Mark 8:27-33
What were Jesus’ concerns in these verses? How would you describe Peter’s action and words in these verses? Can you think of an experience where a serious spiritual misstep followed a spiritual victory in your life?
